70th Merida Classical Theater Festival
The International Festival of Classical Theater in Merida is the oldest classical theater festival held in Spain and is considered the most important of its kind.
The performances of the festival’s plays take place annually, during the months of July and August in the Roman Theater of Mérida, considered one of the buildings in the world that best represent the solid modes and harmonic forms of Roman architecture in the time of Emperor Augustus. It is also the oldest functioning theater in the world.
On its stage, the most prestigious professionals in theater – actors, actresses, musicians, directors, authors, lighting designers, costume designers – both national and international, have paraded throughout its 69 editions, becoming part of history.
